Lisboa e Açores

Day 1Lisboa

Arrival at Lisbon International Airport. 

Formalities of landing and transport to the Hotel in Lisbon. Free Day.

Day 2Lisboa

We will start our tour at Parque Eduardo VII (King of England) so that we could make an introduction of the city, knowing the fabulous view, geography and some of the most famous hills of Lisbon. 

We will travel back in time to the 15th and 16th centuries visiting emblematic monuments such as:

  • Torre de Belém / Padrão dos Descobrimentos / Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (taste of Pastel de Belém)
  • Palácio Nacional da Ajuda (Old Real Palace) / Catedral (Séc XII) / Alfama
  • Viewpoint of Nossa Senhora do Monte with unique views over the city of Lisbon
  • Avenida da Liberdade / Praça do Rossio / Praça do Comércio / Bairro Alto

Finally, we will visit the modern part of Lisbon:

- Parque das Nações, designed and conceived for the reception of the 1998 International Fair, where the 500th anniversary of the Discovery of Vasco da Gama to India was celebrated. 

The visit will take place by cable car through the exhibition area.

Return to the hotel scheduled for 5pm.

Day 3Sintra, Cascais and Estoril

Departure from Lisbon around 08h15 am.

We start our day heading to the village of Sintra (Cultural Landscape of Europe by UNESCO in 1995).

Guided visit to the incredible Palácio da Pena (Pena Palace), where we will learn fascinating facts about the novelist architecture of the 19th century and stroll through its spectacular gardens.

After lunch (free), we will continue for a brief stop at Cabo da Roca, the most western point of Europe. 

We will continue to Cascais, an old fishing village that gained fame as a resort for the Portuguese royal family at the end of the 19th century. 

It is currently a popular holiday destination for Portuguese and foreign tourists, as well as a village with small museums, picturesque gardens, a bright Marina and a rich gastronomy. 

Back in Lisbon, we will pass by Estoril, admiring the beautiful gardens of the most famous Casino of Portugal. 

The route will be along the coast enjoying the wonderful views of the beautiful beaches.

Return to the hotel around 17h00.

Day 4Lisboa – Ponta Delgada | Sete Cidades e Fogo

Meeting at Humberto Delgado Airport Lisbon 2h before departure for boarding formalities to Ponta Delgada – Ilha de São Miguel

Presentation of the guide who will accompany you to the bus to go trought the Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo with the following stops:

  • Viewpoint Pico do Carvão
  • Lagoa do Canário – lagoon in a volcanic crater
  • Viewpoint Vista do Rei – View to Blue and Green Lagoons 
  • Viewpoint Lagoa de Santiago
  • Church São Nicolau

Stop at a local restaurant for lunch 

After lunch, stop at the following locations

  • Viewpoint Ponta do Escalvado - View to Ponta da Ferraria, Ilhéus dos Mosteiros, Lomba Grande and Lomba da Fonte
  • Augusto Arruda pineapple plantation
  • ViewpointLagoa do Fogo
  • Caldeira Velha – wonderful natural monument

Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation

Day 5Furnas

Departure around 09h00, for a bus ride to Furnas, with the following stops:

  • Cerâmica Vieira – Exhibition of regional ceramics
  • Pisão Viewpoint - you can dazzle yourself with an excellent view of the south coast of the island and see the Convento da Caloura
  • Pico do Ferro Viewpoint to contemplate the lagoon and Furnas Valley

The smell of sulphur and bubbling fumaroles, characteristic of the Furnas area, are secondary evidence of volcanic activity.

  • Lagoa das Furnas to watch the "retiro do cozido” – a local dish

Stop at a local restaurant for lunch 

  • Walk through the Furnas boilers, where you can taste various types of water and admire the famous fumaroles
  • Terra Nostra Park - fantastic Botanical Garden and possibility to dive in the railway water pool
  • Gorreana Tea Plantation - learn a little more about the unique European tea culture

Finally, towards Ponta Delgada, stop at the Miradouro de Santa Iria, to appreciate the black basalt cliffs that contrast with the blue of the sea and sky.

Return to the hotel, dinner and accommodation.

Day 6Serra do Cume e Algar do Carvão

Transfer to João Paulo II Airport for trip to Ilha Terceira

After landing, you will continue the tour:

  • Serra do Facho – Viewpoint to the bay of Vitória Beach
  • Walking tour of the Historical Center Vitória Beach
  • Garden and city market
  • Santa Cruz Church
  • Vitorino Nemésio House Museum
  • Francisco Ornelas da Câmara square
  • Serra do Cume viewpoint 
  • Império do Divino Espírito Santo church
  • Salga Bay – famous bay located in the south coast of the island

Stop at local restaurant for lunch typical of the island - Alcatra de Carne

After lunch, 

  • Algar do Carvão, an old volcano that visitors can go down to about 100 meters deep, and observe stalactites unique in the world for their characteristics of silicates, and an underground lake, of crystalline waters
  • Furnas do Enxofre - a fumarolic field that encompasses several aggressive volcanic gases at different temperatures, some of them quite high (about 95o C at the surface and about 130o C at half a meter of depth)
  • Biscoitos Pool, considered one of the best bathing areas of the island, this area is formed by volcanic rocks, providing a pleasant environment
  • Monte Brasil - an extinct volcano of 3 km2 surrounded by the 4 km of walls of the São João Baptista Fortress

Day 7Angra do Heroísmo - Lisboa

Departure around 09h00 for walking tour around the historical centre of Angra do Heroísmo

  • Duque da Terceira Garden – one of the most important in Azores
  • Obelisk Alto da Memória – built with the stones of the old castle of Mills
  • Angrense Theater - 19th Century Building
  • Sé Church - considered the largest temple in the archipelago

Return to Lajes airport for boarding formalities to Ilha de São Miguel – Ponta Delgada.

Stop at a local restaurant for lunch

After lunch, tour through the historical centre of Ponta Delgada:

  • City Market
  • City Doors
  • Nossa Senhora da Esperança Chapel

Transfer to João Paulo II Airport
